Tankless Camp Showers

Tankless Camp Showers are more than your standard camp shower. Unlike shower bags that rely on gravity to for their pressure, tankless showers offer water-pressure on demand and are not restricted to the limited capacities of your standard shower bag. With tankless camp showers, your only limitation is the source you choose to draw your water from - albeit a garden spigot, a bucket, a stream, or even a lake! And, most will even heat the water as it passes through which means a hot pressurized shower, anywhere you want it, and for as long as your fuel and water source will hold out.

The tankless shower units themselves are typically quite small and lightweight. But if it's hot water you're after, the fuel tanks might be a different story depending on your needs. Some of the smallest propane tanks are small & light enough for short backpacking trips. On the other hand, the larger fuel tanks can weigh upwards of 20 pounds, which is obviously too much for your typical weekend trek to the outback, but may be the right choice for longer stays and larger groups.

How Tankless Camp Showers Work

Basically, tankless camp showers draw or suck water from a source such as a stream or water hose and use a water pump to deliver the water to the shower head. Heated models heat the water as it passes through the unit. Propane is the most common fuel source but LP gas is often used.

Some models allow you to regulate the temperature of the water up or down depending on your desires. Tankless camp showers can also have a regulator that will control the pressure of the water coming out of the shower head. This will be an appreciated feature when used for cleaning purposes, like washing the dishes. The smaller models can produce about one and one half gallons of hot water every minute and can reach temperatures of up to 150 degrees. Tankless camp showers can also come with an auto ignite system that will automatically start heating water when it detects that you have turned it on for use.
